The muscle-up, for anyone who is a non-gymnast, is a challenging and highly technical movement. It is one of the movements in CrossFit that is highly coveted by people new to the sport. While it does take strength and the ability to do pull-ups and dips on the rings, good technique is usually what prevents people from succeeding at the movement.

 

This video breaks down the muscle-up into the small details. Some of the common faults that can have a muscle-up go wrong are outlined. First the move is demonstrated with the assistance of the legs, so you can develop the technique. Then the move is demonstrated "for real" on the high rings.
