This video brings to light another small technical difficulty that makes for good study material for aspiring coaches. In this lift, the weight is heavy enough to force Art into a full squat to catch the weight. This minimizes his jumping forward, but the recovery from the deep squat fatigues his legs before he can begin the drive for the jerk.

 

As a result, the bar does not go as rapidly overhead until he has to push with his arms. If the arms are involved too early in the jerk drive, they actually serve to push the body backwards away from the bar pathway, and the bar ends up slightly in front. This time the arm involvement was not so premature as to cause a missed lift, but it does place the bar at the limit of Art’s ability to stabilize it overhead. Just something else to work on in the future.
