Four Medals for Team USA: Day 1 of the 2012 Olympic Games
The 2012 Olympic Games are off to a running start, and the United States is second in the medal count. The United States took its first medal of the Olympics in men's team archery, after losing to Italy by just one point on the final shot. South Korea took the bronze medal.
"Going into the race, I was so excited to get a final, so I went a little too hard in the first 50 of the fly. I kept looking at the scoreboard, I knew it wasn't going to be just me and Michael - there were other great swimmers in the race. When I hit the wall I was in shock, I think I still am, to have won."
The boxing ring is also proving to be a promising field for American athletes. U.S boxer Joseph Diaz got off to a good start with a 19-9 victory over Ukrainian boxer Pavlo Ishchenko. According to reporters, “Diaz repeatedly snapped back Ishchenko's head with uppercuts and quick strikes during a dominant third round.”
So far, China is in the lead as far as medal counts go, with two gold medals and one bronze. The United States has a higher medal count, but only one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals.
