EDITOR'S NOTE: Every Sunday we will be featuring a new bodyweight exercise video from physical therapist Ben Musholt, author of the Mad Skills Exercise Encyclopedia. Ben has a diverse movement background, spanning board sports, martial arts, parkour, and gymnastics. Get watching and get moving!

In this video, Ben demonstrates four single leg exercise variations. Single leg strengthening exercises are great for proprioception, balance, joint stability, and core stability.

  • The first variation uses two kettlebells to perform a single leg bent-over row.
  • The second variation uses a weight plate, and combines a single leg press with a single leg deadlift to create a whole body exercise.
  • The third variation uses a barbell for a single leg deadlift to emphasis the glutes and hamstrings a little more than the weight plate.
  • The fourth and last exercise uses a bench as the starting point for a single leg get-up.
