On an all-new edition of Fight Strength NSFW, the show takes a turn into the world of medicine, as it focuses on a treatment that is growing in popularity across the world. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy has become a legitimate option for surgery, for many professional athletes and fitness enthusiasts. This week, Florida’s NovaGenix clinic co-founder Tim Bruce joins the show to talk about this unique treatment.

With Phil Daru unavailable as he prepares for an upcoming seminar, regular co-host Jason Burgos had the pleasure of bringing on MMA striking coach Dr. Paul Gavoni as his guest co-host. It was a fitting choice, as Gavoni is the man who introduced Burgos and Daru, laying the groundwork for what would be a podcasting partnership. Burgos and Gavoni got to question the aforementioned Bruce about the work NovaGenix does with its various PRP therapy clients.

The second-degree black belt spoke on why he chose to develop NovaGenix with fellow founder Andy Stock, and the impetus for adding PRP therapy to the various treatments offered at the clinic. Bruce then talked about how the process plays out — from evaluation to recovery — why studies on PRP can vary in results, and he told stories on many of the MMA fighters and Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioners that have used PRP for their injuries.

Along with interviewing Bruce, a new segment called “In the Corner with Dr. Gloves” was introduced. The segment featured Burgos asking Gavoni questions related to MMA and striking techniques.

Fight Strength NSFW is once again on Breaking Muscle. On this edition of the fighting and fitness-themed podcast, hosts Jason Burgos and Phil Daru speak with Dr. Andreo Spina, the creator of some very influential techniques in the world functional movement.

Spina – a black belt in Kempo karate and a blue belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu – talked about the techniques that have been taking the training industry by storm. Those are his functional range (FR) release system, the functional range conditioning (FRC) mobility development system and the Kinstretch method of movement. Many of these various systems are used by some of the biggest professional sports organizations in the country. Including the Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Astros, New York Rangers, Portland Trailblazers, Seattle Mariners and the New York Rangers.

There are many true-believers of Dr. Spina’s systems. One being co-host Phil Daru, who is certified in FRC and plans to get a similar certification in Kinstretch. The trio talked about how Dr. Spina developed his systems, their purposes, and the lessons he tries to convey to guests at the multitude of seminars he conducts on the subject.

Dr. Spina also talked about his thoughts on the differences between true mobility and flexibility, the components of the extracellular matrix and his concept of BioFlow. It was an in-depth interview, where this talented individual divulged many of his feelings and opinions on how to get the human body to be as effective as possible.

Along with talking to Dr. Spina, Daru spoke on the plethora of seminars he has coming up in the next few months. Then the two hosts conversed on the thrilling victory for Daru’s close friend and client, Dustin Poirier, at UFC Glendale this past weekend.

The post Fight Strength NSFW: Functional Range Release and Conditioning Mobility Systems appeared first on Breaking Muscle.

Fight Strength NSFW is back with an episode heavily focused on some of the key strategies and techniques related to building high-level fighters.

This week’s show is an “Ask Daru” episode, with a primary focus on what he believes are the important strength training practices to focus on in a fight camp, training methods for fighters with fast and slow twitch muscle fibers, exercises geared specifically for professional fighters, and of course weight-cutting. All of these topics are major facets in preparation leading up to a fight, be it in a cage or a boxing ring.

The American Top Team strength coach also converses with me on ideas for coaching these unique athletes (along with audio from former guest PJ Nestler on the subject), and testosterone replacement therapy in connection with the sport of MMA.

After chatting on those topics, we move on to our weekly “Ask Daru” segment. Our listnener questions include preparing athletes for maximum weight lifting—when they do not have prior experience with it—how much Daru gets involved in his athletes’ nutrition programs, and combating imbalances in the legs of pro fighters.

The show is jam-packed with a plethora of tips and ideas for strength coaches of any level and sporting focus.

On the latest edition of Fight Strength NSFW, co-host Phil Daru and I take our weekly “Ask Daru” segment to the next level. Listeners of the show have sent Daru a whole pile of questions lately, and we felt the need to dedicate an entire episode to deliver answers for these aficionados of fitness.

Daru recently returned from a two-week stay in Russia, where he conducted exclusive seminars for the talented fighters at the ACB Berkut gym in Grozny. Before getting to our listener’s questions, I chatted with the strength and conditioning expert on his visit to the former Soviet Union, and some of his personal methods that he imparted on the athletes and trainers he got to work with.

The questions asked in this all “Ask Daru” episode of the show ran the gamut of training levels. The topics included programming hypertrophy for various weight classes, cardio routines that can burn fat while retaining muscle, conditioning techniques for Muay Thai fighters, methods to improve punching power and speed, and more.

This is a weekly show that focuses on the training strategies used to develop elite fighters. Phil Daru is the lead strength and conditioning coach at American Top Team (ATT).
On the first edition of Fight Strength NSFW, Phil and I interview strength and conditioning coach Nicholas Davenport. Davenport is the founder and director of programming at Mind Body 1. He is also an adjunct professor at Broward College. As a longtime friend of Daru’s—they played collegiate football together—the pair have recently started working together to bring fighters at ATT a chance to partake in some new strength training techniques.

Davenport is a part of a quickly growing trend in the strength and conditioning industry. His work for Mind Body 1 focuses on blending cognitive exercises with an assortment of traditional techniques. The methods he has developed in his Gym-R training center have been blended with the strength training programs Daru implements for several of his MMA athletes, including the recent headliner of UFC Norfolk, Dustin Poirier.

Along with interviewing Davenport, I posed a few training-related questions to Daru on the topics of fasting and developing strength and conditioning programs for Thai boxers.
