For many new lifters, one of the big problems is having sufficient range of motion at the ankles. This problem inhibits or prevents squatting with heels on the floor, and thus compromises stability while squatting. Static stretching performed at the end of the workout can aid greatly in remediating the problem. This can be accomplished with the exercise in the video, which employs the weight of a barbell to increase the stress on the achilles tendon.
