self image

I remember sitting in the back seat of the family car. It was 1985 and shorts were short then. I looked down at my thighs as they spread across the prickling fabric, as they expanded while at rest.
This past week Reebok sent me to the Netherlands to compete in the Lowlands Throwdown. It was also the worst week of my life. Perhaps life is more like CrossFit than I realized.
While girls typically worry about being too fat or too big, men are preoccupied with not being muscular enough - and sometimes feel the pressure to resort to steroids.
As my daughters grow up I worry about their self image and what society will push upon them. I am grateful for CrossFit and the Games for showing my daughters strength is beauty.
