This week – the women's 4x100m relay race at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, Korea. In an event that could only take place in the 1980s, the U.S. team went head to head to with the East Germans and Soviets in the finals of the 4×100. The American team included track superstars Florence Griffith Joyner and Evelyn Ashford. Despite confusion in the semi-finals, less than perfect baton passes, and a determined East German team, the Americans managed to earn the gold with a blazing final run from anchor Ashford.
