Athletes will then carry two 70 to 100-pound Jerry bags 200 meters before switching to a 150 to 200-pound Husafell sandbag carry for 200 meters. The last leg of the final carry included an ascent up 49 steps towards the building’s entrance.

Thursday, August 4, was initially scheduled to be a rest day for competitors. However, after an extended weather delay on Wednesday due to rain and lightning, organizers announced that “Event Two” would be moved from Wednesday to Thursday.

Event Two — Shuttle to Overhead

Athletes had a total of two minutes to run a 400-meter shuttle followed by jerks (shoulder to overhead) for max reps.

After a one-minute rest, athletes had three minutes to run a 600-meter shuttle followed by jerks for max reps. After a two-minute rest, there were four minutes to complete an 800-meter shuttle followed by max rep jerks.

Interestingly, this was scored as two separate 100-point events. The first Shuttle to Overhead workout (A) score was calculated from the athlete’s total time to complete the three runs. The second Shuttle to Overhead workout (B) was dependent on the total number of jerks completed across the three rounds.

The Skill Speed Medley was a series of three rounds of progressively more challenging combinations of pegboard climbing, jump rope, pistol squats, and handstand walks. Each round had a three-minute time limit.

The first round required athletes to climb a pegboard, perform 75 unbroken reps of jump rope, perform 10 unbroken pistol squats with each leg, and end with a handstand walk. The 20 best performers moved on to the second round which called for a more strict pegboard climb, 50 unbroken jump rope double-unders, 10 unbroken pistol squats per leg, and a handstand walk beginning with a pirouette spin.

The competitors with the five best times progressed to the final round: a strict pegboard climb, 50 unbroken jump rope double-unders with a hand crossover, 10 unbroken pistol squats per leg, and a a handstand walk beginning with an L-sit on parallel bars.

The biggest surprise of this round was the relatively poor performance from five-time Games champion Tia-Clair Toomey, who struggled with the unbroken jump rope in the first round and was unable to progress to round two.
