<p>Marcelle&#8217;s record milestone might be even more noteworthy, considering a potentially disastrous mistake made beforehand. According to Marcelle&#8217;s Instagram post marking the occasion, <strong>her <a aria-label="barbell (opens in a new tab)" data-lasso-id="227768" href="https://breakingmuscle.com/7-steps-to-barbell-etiquette/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" class="ek-link">barbell</a> was misloaded by 4.53 kilograms (10 pounds)</strong>. It is not clear where the counting mistake was made or by whom, but Marcelle originally planned for a 258-kilogram (569-pound) squat. Such a lift would&#8217;ve still given Marcelle the World Record. Instead, she powered through the counting snafu and extended the record <strong>by 5.1 kilograms (11.3 pounds)</strong> rather than her expected 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds). </p>

The athlete maintained she previously &#8220;fought through injuries&#8221; and came through with flying colors but seemed to want to take a step back for the time being. The competitor still shared various <a aria-label=" (opens in a new tab)" href="https://breakingmuscle.com/powerbuilding" target="_blank" rel="noopener" class="ek-link" data-lasso-id="219390">training</a> tidbits — especially two respective <a aria-label="back squat (opens in a new tab)" data-lasso-id="219074" href="https://breakingmuscle.com/back-squat-vs-front-squat/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" class="ek-link">back squat</a> PRs in <a aria-label="late August 2022 (opens in a new tab)" data-lasso-id="219075" href="https://breakingmuscle.com/powerlifter-sherine-marcelle-squat-568-pounds-for-2-reps-raw/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" class="ek-link">late August 2022</a> and <a aria-label="early September 202 (opens in a new tab)" data-lasso-id="219076" href="https://breakingmuscle.com/powerlifter-sherine-marcelle-580-pound-squat/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" class="ek-link">early September 2022</a> — but otherwise only featured in the 2022 United States Powerlifting Association (USPA) PWRBLD Winter War in mid-December. </p>



<p>Based on the recent tenor of Marcelle&#8217;s Instagram posts in 2023, the athlete is ready to make her competitive return sometime in late March and early April. However, it is unclear which specific contest Marcelle will participate in, as she has not offered those concrete details. All that might provide a hint is a February 2023 salute to C.T. Fletcher. The influencer is the organizer of <a aria-label="the annual Iron Wars (opens in a new tab)" data-lasso-id="219077" href="https://breakingmuscle.com/joe-mackey-deadlift-910-pounds-iron-wars-vii/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" class="ek-link">the annual Iron Wars</a>, but there doesn&#8217;t appear to be another contest listed on <a href="https://ctfletcher.com/upcoming-events/" target="_blank" aria-label=" (opens in a new tab)" rel="noopener" class="ek-link" data-lasso-id="219391">his event website</a> for the time being. </p>



<p>Wherever Marcelle does compete, she&#8217;s likened to shine: as the athlete usually does. </p>



<p>In her last nine professional appearances, Marcelle has fallen short of first place just twice while competing raw and with wraps. According to <em><a aria-label=" (opens in a new tab)" data-lasso-id="219392" href="https://www.openpowerlifting.org/records/raw/women" target="_blank" rel="noopener" class="ek-link">Open Powerlifting</a></em>, Marcelle possesses one of the all-time highest raw squats (244.9 kilograms/540.1 pounds) in the 90-kilogram division, just shy of two-time reigning International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) World Champion <a aria-label="Amanda Lawrence (opens in a new tab)" data-lasso-id="219080" href="https://breakingmuscle.com/amanda-lawrence-deadlift-573-pounds/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" class="ek-link">Amanda Lawrence</a>. Should Marcelle compete raw with wraps at her next contest, she may potentially turn her early summer 2022 squat PR (297 kilograms/655 pounds) into an all-time World Record. Only Crystal Tate (290.3 kilograms/640 pounds) has ever squatted more, raw with wraps, as a 90-kilogram competitor.</p>

<p>On September 7, 2022, Marcelle posted an Instagram clip where <strong>she <a href="https://breakingmuscle.com/back-squat-vs-front-squat/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-lasso-id="138968">squatted</a> 263 kilograms (580 pounds)</strong> <strong>raw</strong> while wearing a <a href="https://breakingmuscle.com/5-mistakes-you-might-be-making-with-your-weightlifting-belt/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-lasso-id="138969">lifting belt</a> and knee sleeves during a training session. <p>Marcelle&#8217;s training feat might be even more notable in comparison to official marks. That&#8217;s because Marcelle&#8217;s squat PR unofficially exceeds <a href="https://breakingmuscle.com/amanda-lawrence-paused-deadlift-551-pounds/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-lasso-id="138971">Amanda Lawrence</a>&#8216;s all-time World Record in the 90-kilogram weight class <strong>by seven kilograms (15.7 pounds)</strong>. Lawrence set her record by squatting 256 kilograms (564.3 pounds) at the 2020 USA Powerlifting Gainsgiving Open.</p>
<p>None of this recent precedent is new to Marcelle&#8217;s established high standards of late.</p>
<p>For example, in early June 2022, Marcelle notched a <a href="https://breakingmuscle.com/powerlifter-sherine-marcelle-squat-655-pounds-pr/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-lasso-id="138972">squat with wraps of 297 kilograms (655 pounds)</a> for a new PR. That figure unofficially eclipsed Crystal Tate&#8217;s squat with wraps World Record of 290.3 kilograms (640 pounds) from the 2017 Xtreme Powerlifting Coalition (XPC) Finals.&nbsp;Then, in late August 2022, the powerlifter actually completed a squat four pounds <a href="https://breakingmuscle.com/powerlifter-sherine-marcelle-squat-568-pounds-for-2-reps-raw/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-lasso-id="138973">over the current 90KG World Record twice</a>. Plus, as she displayed on her Instagram just two days prior to her latest one-rep raw squat PR, Marcelle captured a 288-kilogram (635-pound) raw squat double PR.&nbsp;</p>
<p>At Marcelle&#8217;s current pace, logging a new PR and repeatedly making current records seem casual might be the baseline expectation for this star powerlifter. In other words: It&#8217;s all in a summer&#8217;s work for Marcelle.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to the caption of Marcelle&#8217;s Instagram post, she originally intended only to do one rep of the <a href="https://breakingmuscle.com/back-squat/" data-lasso-id="137755">heavy squat</a>. However, because she &#8220;wasn&#8217;t a fan of the first rep,&#8221; the athlete decided to do another where she took the squat lower to challenge herself.</p>
<blockquote><p>Super grateful for all of my peers today for being there for me more than I was for myself. This chapter is the one; this chapter defines me as an athlete and where I’m headed.</p></blockquote>
<p>The look of apparent determination on Marcelle&#8217;s face as she weighs whether to do another rep might say it all about this <a href="https://breakingmuscle.com/how-to-build-strength/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-lasso-id="137745">strength</a> achievement.&nbsp;</p>
<h2 id="full-steam-ahead">Full Steam Ahead</h2>
<p>Even while she takes a break from formal competition, Marcelle does not seem to be slowing her ambitions down. The powerlifter has been steadily pushing herself in the gym with some rapid progress of late.&nbsp;</p>
<p>In late August, in a precursor to her latest leg power achievement, Marcelle captured a (249.9-kilogram) 551-pound squat for two reps. Just a couple of days before that, Marcelle completed a 229-kilogram (505-pound) <a href="https://breakingmuscle.com/deadlift/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-lasso-id="137746">deadlift</a> PR without wearing a lifting belt. And in early June, the athlete notched a 297 kilogram (655-pound) squat with wraps — 6.8 kilograms (15 pounds) more than Crystal Tate&#8217;s current World Record.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On June 6, 2022, Marcelle <strong>squatted 297 kilograms (655 pounds) raw with wraps during a training session for a new PR</strong>. &nbsp;The new number surpasses her previous all-time raw <a href="https://breakingmuscle.com/powerlifter-shahram-saki-squats-1124-pounds/" data-lasso-id="111291">squat with wraps</a> PR of 280 kilograms (617.3 pounds) from the 2022 World Raw Powerlifting Federation (WRPF) Ghost Clash in February 2022.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Marcelle&#8217;s new top squat also exceeds the current squat with wraps World Record for a competitor in the 90-kilogram weight class. Though, it is unofficial because it occurred during training. The still-current record holder is Crystal Tate, who notched a 290.3-kilogram (640 pounds) squat with wraps at the 2017 Xtreme Powerlifting Coalition (XPC) Finals.&nbsp;</p>
<h2 id="a-meaningful-mark">A Meaningful Mark&nbsp;</h2>
<p>Capturing this squat with wraps PR still seems to mean a lot to Marcelle. As she detailed on her Instagram, the accomplishment is an apparent part of a journey through adversity.&nbsp;</p>
<p>&#8220;It’s just powerlifting, it’s just a barbell, but it saved me from me while allowing me to tap into the true nature of who I really am fearlessly,&#8221; Marcelle wrote. &#8220;I fought through injuries and a lot more, and life took a turn for the best. Last time I had 650 pounds on my back, I partially tore my quad, and today I came out injury-free.&#8221;</p>
<p>While it&#8217;s clear Marcelle is back on the right track when it comes to her power, she notes that <strong>she won&#8217;t be competing this year</strong>. Her mindset seems to be more about individual improvement before she steps back onto a sanctioned lifting platform.</p>
<p>&#8220;I won’t be stepping on the platform in wraps this year, but I will continue to perfect my craft, so once I do next year, whenever that may be, I will have zero injuries.&#8221;</p>

<h2 id="marcelle-at-a-glance">Marcelle at a Glance</h2>
<p>Marcelle has competed as a professional powerlifter since April 2016. In that time, across 11 competitions, she can boast eight victories and two other second-place finishes. The only time Marcelle failed to qualify for the podium was a fourth-place result back in March 2017.&nbsp;</p>
<p>As Marcelle moves toward the next phase of her career and continues to work on her &#8220;craft,&#8221; it might not be a stretch to say she&#8217;ll continue this impressive run. If her latest heavy squat with wraps hints at anything grand in the future, the next phase might be the best yet.&nbsp;</p>
