This week, watch Russian powerlifter Andrey Malanichev squatting 440kg (970lb) for three reps, under three weeks out from the GPA World Powerlifting Championships 2013 in Finland. He is widely regarded to be one of the strongest lifters of current times. Malanichev's training, as detailed on his website, consists almost exclusively of the three powerlifts - the squat, the deadlift, and the bench press. He generally performs these lifts in a classic manner, without variations or modifications. This simple but effective style of training clearly works well for Malanichev - you only need to take a look at the video for proof.
