Welcome to our new series featuring calisthenics expert Al Kavaldo. This week, Al demonstrates the elbow lever. Use a bench to help you learn this exercise.

  1. Start off by just trying to get your legs off the ground.
  2. From there, try getting into a straddle position.
  3. Eventually, you can bring your legs together.
When you get comfortable with the bench, try moving onto the bar. But that's not all. When the bar work is easy, you'll be ready to work on the one-arm elbow lever.
As the name implies, you want to leverage your body against your elbow, so get the elbow right against your hip. Use the same three progressions as above.
