At the time of this article’s publication, neither Hall nor Licis made any statements or shared their thoughts about the announcement. It will be the second time that Hall and Licis face off as captains for their respective nations.

Licis was a replacement captain after Robert Oberst bowed out for undisclosed reasons. Neither man has competed in strongman since the first matchup in the inaugural World’s Strongest Nation event, which was held on Nov. 26, 2022 in Liverpool. The UK team won that contest, but Hall suffered a torn teres minor when competing in the Viking Press.

One of the main highlights of that show came from neither of the WSM champions. Gabi Dixson of Team USA dominated the Hercules Hold event by holding on to the pillars for a time of one minute, 8.61 seconds, which was the longest of any woman and only behind Team UK’s Mark Felix, who managed to maintain his grip for nearly 20 more seconds.

Hall’s and Licis’ teammates — four men and four women on each team — have not been announced as of this writing, but their own accolades make this contest a must-see. Hall was the first man to deadlift 500 kilograms (1,102 pounds) in 2016, and he followed that up by winning the 2017 WSM title.

After winning the 2018 Britain’s Strongest Man contest, he retired from competition. His appearance in the World’s Strongest Nation was his first sanctioned strongman event since. He stayed involved with the sport in a media-based role, rather than directly competing, as well as being one of the stars of the History Channel’s series, Strongest Men in History.

Licis made one of his earliest big impacts on the sport when he won the 2019 Arnold Strongman USA contest, and he finished second in the Arnold Strongman Classic to Hafthor Björnsson. That same year, he won the WSM title. After taking over a year off to recover from injuries, he won the 2021 Rogue Invitational Strongman contest, and he claimed the 2022 Arnold Strongman Classic six months later. Licis finished as the runner-up in that year’s WSM to Tom Stoltman.

It might be two-time reigning WSM champion, Tom Stoltman. Or it could be another high-level contender looking to unseat the Scottish superstar before he makes vaunted WSM history. One strongman icon has an idea of what he sees unfolding in South Carolina.

On Apr. 17, 2023, Eddie Hall, the 2017 WSM champion, discussed the prospects for the 2023 iteration of the contest on his YouTube channel. In the process, he outlined his top three contenders for the title, including Stoltman, four-time winner Brian Shaw (2011, 2013, 2015-2016) in his final WSM appearance, and two-time defending Shaw Classic (SC) champion (2021-2022) Trey Mitchell.

Before he broke down his personal perspective on the 2023 WSM, Hall made one thing clear: there is nothing more monumental for a strongman than winning the prestigious contest. Full stop. It is a genuine dream fulfilled to be officially named the most physically powerful person on the planet.

“To be the World’s Strongest Man is probably one of the most childhood dream titles that people dream of,” Hall explained. “If you ask a man if they want to be the World’s Strongest Man and they say no, they are lying.”

As is the usual precedent, the 2023 WSM will start with 30 competitors before cutting down to 10 athletes for the weekend’s Final on Apr. 22-23, 2023. Hall expressed who he wants to see duke it out for the WSM title when all is said and done.

Hall seemed to like so many of the competitors’ chances that he even threw in an extra name for the heck of it.

“This is my dream Final going in, my top ten,” Hall started. “Tom Stoltman, Luke Stoltman, Pavlo Kordiyaka, Oleksii Novikov, Mitchell Hooper, Trey Mitchell, Aivars Šmaukstelis, Kevin Faires, Adam Bishop, Evan Singleton, Brian Shaw. That is eleven, but whatever.”

As for the format and event schedule for the 2023 WSM, Hall believes this year’s competition favors strongmen who lean on size more than agility and athleticism. Even though he wouldn’t make a concrete final prediction, Hall thinks strongmen of that mold — like Tom Stoltman, Shaw, and Mitchell — are strongly positioned (no pun intended) to win it all.

“I think it is really leaning towards the heavier men this year,” Hall said. “I think it is going to be a heavy, heavy Final. I think that is going to suit the bigger, taller, heavier guys … I’m not going to say who is going to win, because I am friends with all these people. I don’t want to put anyone down. My top three are definitely Brian Shaw, Tom Stoltman, and Trey Mitchell. Just because of the sheer size and body weight of these guys.”

In a strongman field that features just three current or previous champions (Stoltman, Shaw, and Oleksii Novikov), anyone seems capable of winning the 2023 WSM. However, Hall’s thoughts about size and mass being the deciding factors might hold true by the end of the weekend. Fans of the strength sport will find out as results come in until a new (or reigning) victor is crowned.

Much like Hall’s previous bodybuilding-esque back routines in 2023 by himself and Jamie “The Giant” Christian, the athlete and Cutler featured a lot of pulldowns and rows.

Here’s a short overview of the complete workout, in order of movement. (Note: The pair did not disclose the exact number of sets and repetitions.) Cutler frequently emphasized the conditioning benefits of strict rest periods with 45 to 60 seconds between sets.

Machine Reverse-Grip Row

Among the more notable tips Cutler fed Hall about building mass and refining one’s back was during the lat pulldown. The bodybuilding icon had a lot to say about proper form as the 2017 World’s Strongest Man (WSM) worked through his set.

The idea, as it often is in bodybuilding, was about contracting the muscles enough to challenge them.

“I know this weight isn’t too heavy but we’re going to work on the contraction,” Cutler told Hall. “So, when you come down, I want you to kind of … this is kind of imitating the back double biceps, right? So, you’re going to squeeze, you know? Get that fire in the lats. So, make sure you get the contraction and don’t just pull the weight.”

Cutler appeared to really want to emphasize a quality lat pulldown for Hall. After all, it seemed to be one of the keys to his successful career on stage.

“I had a wider waist, so I had to offset. I had to build as big lats as possible,” Cutler explained to Hall. “So, because you always want to create that taper in bodybuilding, right? Because I was a little wider-waisted, the lats had to really flare out. So I really focused on the pulldown movements.”

As for how Cutler characterized Hall’s work ethic, he was very complimentary while the strongman/hopeful bodybuilder did his single-arm bent-over dumbbell rows.

“He’s [Hall] definitely the hardest worker in the room. That’s for sure.”

Hall’s workout with Cutler aside, he’s certainly not slowing down his bodybuilding ambitions. At least, according to his YouTube channel. Over the past few weeks, the athlete has posted videos of himself doing segments of bodybuilding training, working with Christian and Cutler, and even the powerful Larry Wheels.

At this rate, one fact seems abundantly clear — Hall will take extra bodybuilding knowledge wherever he can get it. And he’s getting it from some well-credentialed sources.

As such, with Hall now preparing to make a foray into bodybuilding sometime in late 2024, he appears to be on the lookout for any contingency plan.

On Feb. 19, 2023, Hall posted a video to his YouTube channel where he worked through a fast-paced back workout that was bodybuilding-oriented.

Here’s an overview of Hall’s latest bodybuilding back workout.

Deadlift

Understandably, Hall begins his routine with a staple compound lifting movement: the deadlift. However, in orienting it more toward bodybuilding, Hall didn’t use the typical heavyweights some might be accustomed to seeing him lift. In the interest of keeping his muscles under tension for longer, the athlete instead warmed up with two 20-kilogram (44-pound) plates on each side of his barbell and a few working sets with three plates on each end using a slow eccentric (lowering phase) on each repetition.

Hall explained his changed rationale in a very matter-of-fact fashion.

“I love moving weights as hard as physically possible,” Hall said. “Unlike strongman where you just move the weight from A to B. And you win competitions, you win lots of money. No, no, no. In bodybuilding, you’ve got to move the weight as slow and as painfully as possible. And you can still win loads of money, so that’s good.”

Lat Pulldown/Machine Pulldown

To really get after his back muscles and round them out from different positions, Hall implemented two variations of the lat pulldown in a superset. He began with pulldowns on a standard cable pulley and alternated with a machine-based pulldown that worked each arm independently. Hall performed three sets and 10 reps of each respective movement.

Incline Row/Seated Row

For the next portion of his workout, Hall worked in another superset, this time performing incline rows and seated rows. The athlete did three sets each while using a slow and controlled motion for added tension.

Dumbbell Hammer Curl

After finishing off the main back portion of his workout, Hall decided to throw in some biceps movements, turning the session into a combined back and biceps workout. He began with dumbbell hammer curls and performed four sets.

Machine Biceps Curl

To finish off his productive day, Hall isolated his biceps muscle on a strict curl machine. A pad on the machine elevated the arms to chest-height while restricting the total movement of the arms, forcing the biceps to do most of the work. Hall would complete an extended drop set — decreasing the weight after every few repetitions — for an undisclosed total number of reps before finally wrapping up.

With Hall’s bodybuilding debut still many months away, any progress he makes in the interim is likely positive. As he continues to dip his toes into bodybuilding-oriented training, it appears evident Hall is willing to pull out all the stops to make his next athletic endeavor productive.

In early January 2023, former 2017 World’s Strongest Man (WSM) champion Eddie Hall revealed he would be training to prepare for a venture into bodybuilding in the late stages of the year 2024. In accordance with those ambitions for one of the greatest strongmen of all time, Hall is already taking steps to be ready for this new career venture.

On Jan. 22, 2023, Hall posted a video on his YouTube channel where he tackles training his back with International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) Pro League bodybuilder Jamie “The Giant” Christian. Per NPC News Online, the bodybuilder is perhaps best known for his fourth-place finish at the 2020 British Grand Prix. At 6’5″, Christian is also the self-proclaimed tallest Men’s Open pro bodybuilder in the world.

This filmed session appears to be one of Hall’s first earnest inside looks at shifting away from his usual strongman focus to create a more ripped and refined physique fit for a bodybuilding stage. Hall and Christian waste no time diving in, letting this unique exercise session speak for itself as part of Hall’s upcoming transition to bodybuilding.

Lat Pulldown

With formal introductions out of the way, Hall and Christian begin the workout by tackling some wide-grip lat pulldowns. It is here where Hall noticed the distinction between Christian’s focus on the movement. Whereas Hall might center on the weight being pulled down, Christian emphasized keeping tension on the lats. The pair would finish a heavy drop set, beginning with the entire weight stack and descending two to three plates per set, to close this portion of the routine.

“You can feel your lats working way more,” Hall said.

Seated Rows

On the ensuing seated rows, Christian would once again emphasize keeping tension on the lats while working through a quality range of motion. The athlete would explain to Hall that bodybuilding training was more about keeping the muscles contracted rather than leaning on “momentum” while maximizing weight. On the final set, the experienced bodybuilder guided Hall through a rest-pause set — training to momentary muscular failure, resting 20 seconds, and performing additional reps to reach failure a second time.

“Momentum is allowing the muscle to relax,” Christian clarified. “So, try to take the momentum out of everything.”

Heavy on the Back

The duo would close the workout diving into chest-suppored rows, single-arm machine rows, and a superset of lat pulldowns and seated rows. Overall, Hall and Christian performed roughly two high-rep working sets at a high intensity while executing their final lat pulldown and seated row superset as a fitting four-set flourish.

To make a successful foray into bodybuilding, Hall will likely need all the sport-specific knowledge he can get. Picking the brain of an experienced professional like Christian is a quality start for the strongman legend to ensure his bodybuilding journey develops the way he envisions.

Shaw posted a video of the session on his YouTube channel, which you can see below:

Eddie Hall and Brian Shaw Head to Planet Fitness

Since most Planet Fitness gyms don’t have squat racks, the pair started their workout with Smith machine squats. Thanks to the sheer width of their frames, it took Hall and Shaw some time to get used to the machine. In the end, they both worked up to five 45-pound plates on each side of the bar, even though Shaw had to hold onto the other end of the machine to execute his squats properly.

The duo also tried their hands at an abdominal crunch machine before moving to the leg press. They eventually loaded up the machine with six 45-pound plates on each side and another on top of the sled, which they moved with ease. Next up were the leg extensions, adductor, and abductor machines.

The final exercise of the day was a personal challenge between the two strongmen. They entered the gym’s circuit training room and performed one rep on each of the 20 stations with max weight, and the man who could complete all 20 in the fastest time won. Hall finished in 1:15.09, while Shaw was slightly behind at 1:19.

Shaw is in the middle of an off-season, but Hall is nearing a return to competitive strongman after five years. He’s getting ready to serve as captain of Team UK at the World’s Strongest Nation contest, taking place on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2022, in Liverpool, England. The captain for Team USA in that competition will be the 2019 World’s Strongest Man champion, Martins Licis.

In terms of accomplishments and influence on the sport of strongman, few athletes could compare to the exploits of Brian Shaw and Eddie Hall. Both are former World’s Strongest Man (WSM) champions, both plan to continue to plug away in various strength endeavors as competitors, and both seem to have no long-term desire to rack their circus dumbbells any time soon. A recent training collaboration between the pair might be a tacit acknowledgment they’re aware of their impact on strength sports overall.

On Nov. 13, 2022, Hall posted a video on his YouTube channel where he and Shaw ran through a challenging shoulder workout together. Hall traveled from his native United Kingdom to join Shaw for the session at the latter’s home gym in Fort Lupton, CO.

Here’s an overview of the shoulder workout Shaw and Hall tag-teamed together at Shaw’s home gym.

Seated Overhead Press

Shaw and Hall began their shoulder routine with a few sets of a seated overhead press. The athletes did not use traditional dumbbells, instead electing to utilize Rogue Thompson Fatbells — which resemble bowling balls with a handle in the hollowed-out center. The pair began with a weight of 53 pounds in each hand on the first set before gradually transitioning to a final set of 150 pounds per hand.

Given that Fatbells require the athlete to put their hands “inside” the weights, so to speak, some might consider them more challenging to train with. This sentiment appeared to apply to Hall after his first experience with the implements.

“Gotta say, never touched them [the Thompson Fatbells] before,” Hall said. “We did five sets, but I feel like we did ten sets. It’s that much harder to stabilize.”

Seated Machine Shoulder Press

Staying seated, Shaw and Hall next performed some sets on a seated machine shoulder press. The athletes began with just one 45-pound plate on each end of the machine and worked to a final set of 450 pounds for 10 reps (five 45-pound plates on each side).

Cable Rear Delt Flye/Single-Arm Dumbbell Lateral Raise Superset

Once they were finished with pressing movements and variations, Hall and Shaw closed their shoulder workout with demanding supersets, pairing a rear-facing shoulder flye in a cable crossover machine with single-arm dumbbell lateral raises. Once the two reached the final set, Shaw ensured he performed at least one more rep (13) than his friendly peer in Hall (12).

Having formally stepped away from strongman after a victory in the 2018 Britain’s Strongest Man (BSM), Hall will return to the sport at the 2022 Giants Live World Nation on Nov. 26, 2022. Hall will be the captain of Team UK, opposing Robert Oberst’s Team USA, in the contest that will take place in Liverpool, England.

Meanwhile, Shaw hasn’t outlined any upcoming competitive plans at the time of this writing. The legendary strongman appears to be focused on bolstering his own YouTube channel with noteworthy strongman content — along with other usual media appearances — first and foremost for now.

One thing does seem certain as Shaw and Hall once again go their separate ways — when these two have a strength meeting of the minds, a lot of weight will be flying around.

If that weren’t enough, he has a new World Record to his name, too.

On Oct. 28, 2022, Hall posted a video to his Instagram channel of himself capturing the 1,000-meter row World Record with a time of two minutes and 39.3 seconds. The mark surpasses the figure of Australian Olympian rower Samuel Loch, who recorded a time of two minutes and 39.5 seconds in July 2016.

Hall has had his sights set on this World record 1,000-meter row milestone for a little while. Much of his recent social media clips feature the athlete training his proficiency on the rowing machine in preparation for an eventual record attempt. With that work having now paid off, Hall seemed overwhelmed with gratitude in his Instagram post while outlining his long journey.

“This time last year, I tried to go sub 2.40 on the SkiErg,” Hall started. “I fell just short, but the training and lessons I learned helped me achieve this today.”

As Hall made his return to rowing on the machine, he soon found he had plenty in the tank and pushed himself accordingly.

“When I started rowing back in August, I had the sole goal of going sub-six,” Hall explained. “My fitness soon came back, and I was able to improve my technique enough to achieve this in a short amount of time. What I discovered was that I was able to hold a similar pace but with less perceived effort.”

The comments of Hall’s post feature a familiar face offering hearty congratulations — his brother Eddie.

“Well done, bro, World Records run in the family,” Eddie Hall wrote in reaction.

As for what the future holds, James Hall seems to be in a place where he can carve his own path as he pleases. With rugby out of the picture, Hall appears to be taking on any new fitness goals as they come on a regular basis. Yet, as this World Record shows, he’s not limiting himself in his ambitions. After all, he is the brother of a strongman legend, and that means he has to build his own great strength legacy by comparison.

As a former World’s Strongest Man (WSM) champion in 2017, there’s little doubt that Eddie Hall possesses the requisite strength and power needed to thrive as an American football player. The strongman legend recently decided to put some of his other skills to the test in a direct application.

On Oct. 23, 2022, Hall posted a video to his YouTube channel where he tried several drills featured in the National Football League’s (NFL) annual Scouting Combine that test the athletic aptitude of incoming rookie players. Going a little bit out of his comfort zone seemed fun for Hall to check up on his overall athletic talents in an unfamiliar environment.

[Related: How to Eat More for Muscle and Strength Gains]

To ensure he would conduct every drill appropriately, Hall had former long-time NFL veteran Jack Crawford and rugby/former NFL player Christian Scotland-Williamson on hand to help. The combine-style workout took place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, UK. (Note: The stadium is one of the few venues in which the NFL sometimes plays regular season games, with another notable location being Wembley Stadium, also in London.)

After maintaining that he “can’t catch, can’t throw, and can’t run” but can probably “mow people down,” Hall padded himself in equipment and got to work.

The first drill saw Hall test his agility in the 20-yard shuttle to see how he changed direction. The drill has an athlete start in between a 10-yard margin. While pivoting, they run five yards to each side before a final 10-yard sprint. Hall notched a time of 5.15 seconds. For someone of his approximate 353-pound size, such a time compares well to NFL offensive linemen. For example, Houston Texans offensive guard and 2022 NFL draft selection Kenyon Green completed his official shuttle run in 5.12 seconds, per the NFL database.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CkEMZG7NNrc

[Related: How to Do the Close-Grip Bench Press for Bigger, Stronger Triceps]

Hall followed the shuttle run with the broad jump — where the athlete tests their forward-leaping ability. Hall managed to notch a distance of 6.5 feet (or 78 inches). This compared less favorably to NFL offensive linemen, as someone like the Los Angeles Chargers’ Zion Johnson broad-jumped 9.3 feet (or 112 inches) in March 2022’s edition of the actual Combine, according to Pro Football Reference. (Note: Hall completed his broad jump in shoulder pads and protective knee wear, potentially limiting his mobility. Whereas NFL athletes complete their tests in shorts and shirts.)

Hall finally tried his hand at the famed 40-yard dash to close this short mock NFL combine. A simple ask, all he had to do was run 40 yards in a straight line as fast as possible. He finished with a time of 5.73 seconds. Considering his lack of experience, that time is solid. Though, again, mobility issues aside, that time doesn’t compare well with young professional offensive linemen, as someone like Johnson had a 40-yard dash of 5.18 seconds. In this drill, more than half a second is a significant difference.

[Related: How to Do the Weighted Pull-Up — Benefits, Variations, and More]

With this Combine mock-up in the rearview mirror, Hall is preparing for his strongman comeback. After retirement in 2017, he will return as captain of Team UK at the 2022 Giants Live World Nation on Nov. 26, 2022, at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, England. Hall might have been a successful American football player in a different world.

In this reality, strongman is his calling, and it should be fascinating to see how he fares in what will likely be a highly-anticipated return.

The historic nature of Browner’s deadlift naturally drew the attention of more than a few figures in strength sports. Browner received notable variations of praise from people like two-time International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) World Champion (2019, 2021) Russell Orhii, powerlifters Bobb Matthews and Ernie Lillibridge Jr., 2016 Europe’s Strongest Man (ESM) Laurence Shahlaei, and strongman Rob Kearney.

Browner’s deadlift also puts him in an exclusive club in strength sports. He joins three athletes who have pulled at least 500 kilograms on camera over the last several years.

The 2017 World’s Strongest Man (WSM) champion Eddie Hall was the first to deadlift at least that much weight when he set the mark as the strongman World Record at the 2016 World Deadlift Championships (WDC) in Leeds, England.

Roughly a year later, 2018 WSM winner Hafthor Björnsson extended the record when he deadlifted 501 kilograms (1,104.5 pounds) during the 2020 World’s Ultimate Strongman “Feats of Strength” series. However, because Hall accomplished his deadlift at a sanctioned neutral competition while Björnsson did his at his personal gym in Reykjavik, Iceland, members of the strongman world still believe Hall holds the official World Record.

A few years later, in late April 2022, Polish athlete Krzysztof Wierzbicki became the first powerlifter ever to deadlift at least 500 kilograms when he pulled 502.5 kilograms (1,108 pounds) during a recorded training session. At the time of this writing, Wierzbicki’s deadlift is the heaviest-filmed known pull in history. Unlike Hall and Björnsson, Wierzbicki notched his pull without a deadlift suit. Because Wierzbicki used straps, it wouldn’t have counted in a sanctioned contest.

Browner follows Hall, Björnsson, and Wierzbicki as the fourth person to complete a traditional deadlift of at least 500 kilograms from the floor. He joins the Wierzbicki as the second person to do without the assistance of a suit. Likewise, Browner’s pull would not count in an official competition because of his use of straps.

Aside from breaking the World Record, the next significant deadlift achievement might be to see who can pull 500 kilograms without the use of straps. Browner, Wierzbicki, and their peer Danny Grigsby — the first powerlifter to capture a 1,000-plus pound raw deadlift in a full power meet — will undoubtedly all be huge factors in that race.

This fall, the strongman legend will officially return to the sport by competing in the 2022 Giants Live World’s Strongest Nation (WSN) competition. In a team-oriented, head-to-head contest, Hall will be the captain of Team UK, while eight-time WSM competitor Robert Oberst will captain Team USA. The competition will take place on November 26 in Liverpool, England.

In preparation for his return to strongman, Hall shared an August 24 video on his YouTube channel that details his daily nutrition three months before he competes in Liverpool.

Here’s Hall breaking down how he eats as he trains to excel in strongman again.

Breakfast

According to Hall, his wife usually prepares his daily meals. On the day this video was filmed, she had to work, so Hall made everything himself — with the help of his wife’s written instructions.

First on the ledger for Hall was a morning protein shake. It consisted of two scoops of whey protein, two tablespoons of peanut butter, one banana, some Skinny Food chocolate spread, milk, and ice. The strongman guessed the shake had around 700 calories and 65 grams of protein.

Afterward, before walking his dog for some morning cardio, Hall weighed himself on a scale. The scale read 160.45 kilograms (353.7 pounds) — more than 40 pounds above Hall’s weight during his boxing match with Björnsson in late March this year.

Lunch

Before he headed out for a training session, Hall pieced together his lunch. The athlete used scissors to cut up several chicken thighs into a skillet. Then, he chopped up onions and tomatoes and mixed them with coriander, cilantro, and his own special low-sugar cooking sauce. He packed this mix into five wraps, which had roughly 1,500 calories and 80 grams of protein.

To have a smaller meal after his workout, Hall filled up two additional wraps. His daily total after training was 2,800 calories and 305 grams of protein.

To conclude his day, Hall made two “Beast Burgers.” These burgers had two big patties of beef on respective buns, sauce, tomatoes, and cheese.

Everything went smoothly except for strips of bacon which were burnt beyond salvage, and a large side of fries — which Hall failed to pat dry, toss in oil, and plop in the air fryer. After he consulted his wife on the telephone, he acquiesced and plated his non-crispy potato wedges.

After finishing this final monster of a meal, Hall said his total calories for the day were 4,600, and total protein was 385 grams.

In his strongman heyday, Hall competed at over 400 pounds during contests. That is a far cry from his current weight of 353.7 pounds. Such a potential shift might mean Hall excels more on agility-related events while sacrificing strength in heavier aspects at the 2022 WSN.

Hall will take his nutrition and training to captain Team UK at the 2022 Giants Live World’s Strongest Nation on November 26 in Liverpool, England.

A Heated Field

While the legendary Hall might be the headliner and captain for Team UK, that doesn’t mean his teammates are slouches by any means.

For example, Tom Stoltman is the reigning two-time WSM Champion (2021-2022), fresh off a victory in Sacramento, CA, in late May. Meanwhile, each of the UK women have all won the World’s Strongest Woman (WSW) contest in the past. There’s Donna Moore (2016-2017, 2019), Andrea Thompson (2018), and Rebecca Roberts (2021).

On the Americans’ side, the captain in Oberst has plenty of hungry athletes alongside him.

There’s Nadia Stowers, the 2021 Static Monsters World Champion. Then, Inez Carrasquillo enters the fray. The athlete unofficially broke the log press World Record during a February 2022 training session. A dual-sport, versatile competitor as both a strongwoman and powerlifter, Gabi Dixson won the 2021 International Powerlifting League (IPL) World Championship.

As for the American strongmen, a former WSM contender Rob Kearney is in the mix, and potential future stars Evan Singleton and Bobby Thompson flank him. In addition, the 28-year-old Trey Mitchell — winner of the 2021 Shaw Classic and sixth-place finisher at the 2022 WSM — could be the catalyst behind a Team USA victory.
