Growing up in South Africa, getting kicked in the head repeatedly during Taekwondo tournaments really highlighted the importance of athletic conditioning to Dave Ayres.

Later, after two boring years at university, he was afforded the opportunity to join the British Army. Feeling gung-ho, he opted to apply to the Parachute Regiment. Not being great at pull-ups nearly shelved his plans of falling to glory from a perfectly good airplane. During his military service he attended the Physical Training Instructor course and got to shout at other unfortunate individuals. His Army time had a great influence on the coach he has become today.

Returning to South Africa, he studied toward his undergraduate degree with majors in Sport Psychology and Human Movement Studies, and recently Honors in Sport Science. CrossFit was the conditioning program of choice for honors students and, as such, he completed my Level 1 certification.

Dave wants to push himself academically and physically to become an even better coach. Through a combination of both these elements, his understanding of human movement is constantly developing; allowing him to deliver an even greater service.
