Art can be so much more meaningful when you know a little bit more about the person behind it - the eye behind the lens. That's why I periodically profile sports/action photographers and their work. Read on to learn about photographer Michael Brian and get a good look at the world through his eyes:

Michael Brian first experienced photography from the other side of the lens - as a model. He was lucky enough to work with many talented photographers who were happy to chat with him and answer his myriad of questions regarding the art. Eventually this blossomed into Michael's own career as a professional photographer.

LIke a previous featured photographer Mary Siani, Michael Brian is also a dog photographer. His favorite subjects are dogs, kids, and CrossFit. For Michael, he said it's all about the physical form:

I see it as body sculpture, as in, how can I portray the physical form to appear in its finest representation? I also love shooting kids quite a lot, which is what I started shooting once I picked up the camera full time. Much like dogs, they wear it on their sleeve - no false pretense. It's kind of like a sport in itself shooting kids - trying to catch the ultimate moment that they may give you at any given moment.

It is the purity of the moment that drives Michael creatively and what drew him to sports photography, as well, starting first with athlete portraits and then moving into action photography. In his CrossFit work he is compelled by the intensity and adrenaline, both of the athletes and the crowd, and attempts to portray the physical, mental, and emotional outlay of his subjects.

Ultimately, Michael seeks to spread a positive message with his work. His stated theme: "Always that of optimism and empowerment, and that we are all living beings with a incredible souls worthy of all things possible."
