Looking for a great all around shoe for cross training? If you have tried Inov8, DC, Nike Free, or Vibrams with little success, give these low-profile, ultra-lightweight trail racers a go. These shoes were specifically designed for trail running but they make a great all around fitness crossover and an excellent go to shoe for many uses.
We tested three pairs of the New Balance MT 101 women’s style and two pairs of the men’s shoe over a period of three months. The shoes were used in traditional fitness training, crossfitting, walking, running, and generally wearing on a daily basis. We overwhelming felt that these shoes were very comfortable, and well worth the price. These racers work great for crossfitters; sprinting, rowing, box jumps, gymnastics skills, rope climbing and much more.
The shoe runs true to size so you would want order your regular athletic shoe size. If you are on the larger size these shoes are some of the only we have found online that accommodate a men’s sizes up to 14 and a women’s sizes up to 12. New Balance also offers multiple widths, from narrow (2A) to extra-extra-wide (6E).
If you are interested in wearing these shoes outdoors they do feature a puncture-resistant toe material to aid in the protection of your feet. The shoes are very lightweight, weighing in at only 7.8 ounces. The synthetic/mesh upper part of the shoe provides cooling breathability and support while the secure laces keep the shoes snug around the foot.
As general fitness shoes the New Balance MT 101’s are affordable, super comfortable, and universal.
