Eric Helms of 3D Muscle Journey is an accomplished natural bodybuilder, world-renowned coach and fitness educator. Last year, he competed multiple times on the bodybuilding stage, but in 2020, he set himself the challenge of competing in three different strength sports: weightlifting, strongman, and powerlifting. In this episode, we discuss how he has juggled the competing demands of these different sports.
Helms best describes himself as just someone who is way too obsessed with one thing which is lifting. It has influenced his intellectual pursuits, his choice of career and his personal pursuits as an athlete.
If you are in the bodybuilding scene, you will probably have seen Helms’ competition pictures or heard me talk about bodybuilding coaches on podcasts, videos, and social media. If you are into powerlifting, you may have heard him talking about cutting weight or coaching Bryce Lewis.
If you are into weightlifting, you may not have heard of him but that’s because, as he says self-deprecatingly, something that he is the least good at. And, if that wasn’t enough lifting, he has recently started to venture into the sport of Strongman. However, no matter what he is doing, it is always lifting.
