I’ve been living a Paleo lifestyle 1,100+ days and recently began a ketogenic journey. I made the decision because I had a meniscus injury in December and wanted to decrease the inflammation.
Ketosis is achieved by consuming virtually no sugar, no dairy and, minimal-to-no carbs. The health benefits range from mood stabilization, to supporting the mitochondria in your cells, to building your immune system.
My Ketosis Experiment
Within ten days of going keto, my overall stamina increased, swelling around my knee was gone, and I began suddenly sleeping through the night. I almost never felt hungry, and the life-long afternoon brain fog became a distant memory.
“Before living a conscious paleo life, I had no bilateral use of my hands. When I maintained ketosis, I went from doing self-myofascial release on my hands about nine times a day to just two or three.”
Most notable for me was the decrease in the need for self-care regarding my hands. Since I have multiple sclerosis, my hands often stop working due to overuse. In following a ketogenic protocol, I went from doing self-myofascial release on my hands about nine times a day to just two or three. Not to mention, my yoga practice began delivering that extra inch, and my physical body composition changed in a way I had never before experienced.
Smoothies became my ketogenic friend right from the start. I found myself requiring almost two a day to help consume enough fat needed to maintain ketosis. But in my search for smoothie recipes, I discovered many are filled with dairy and sugar. I was motivated to produce sugar- and dairy-free recipes that help to maintain ketosis.
Enjoy these smoothies anytime of day. My favorite way is in a Mason jar with a straw!
