Being squished in an airline seat for hours and sitting in a terminal on a layover always tightens my body up for days or even weeks afterward. I have found that being proactive and stretching out as much as possible during and after a flight, combined with staying hydrated, makes a huge difference in ‘post-flight recovery.’
This video contains a twenty-minute sequence of airport-friendly exercises. Try them on your next layover to stay loose and keep your muscles moving. All you need is a chair, some floor space, and a wall. If you don’t have enough time for the entire sequence, just do what you can. A little bit of functional movement will go a long way, and your body will thank you.
Worried about what others will think? Don’t be. Chances are, if other people are watching you while you do exercises in the middle of a crowded airport, they are jealous. They just wish they had the chutzpah to do the same. Don’t be scared to set an example of what it takes to be proactive about your health and wellbeing.
