Every Sunday we post the “Sunday Seven” so you can quickly see the 7 most popular articles of the week. This week: CrossFit Gymnastics, tips for healthy training, martial arts, hip openers for Olympic weightlifters, CrossFit Kids, and more!

1. CrossFit Gymnastics: Bodyweight Mechanics are Basics For a Reason (Jeff Kuhland)

Going back to bodyweight and perfecting gymnastics movement can translate to being a better all-around athlete. Here’s what I learned at the CrossFit Gymnastics certification.

2. You’re Not Making the Godfather: Quit Taking Your Training So Seriously (Becca Borawski)

While it’s great to have passion about your fitness, it’s not healthy for the long-term to act like you’re headed for the Olympics. It’s time to look at the big picture.

3. How to Spot a Toxic Martial Arts Team Environment (Sally Arsenault)

People new to martial arts might not realize how a healthy school should operate and might accidentally wind up at a toxic club with negative, even dangerous behavior. Here’s how to assess your club.

4. Video: Hip Opening Exercises for Olympic Weightlifters (Drew Dillon)

In this video we look at being able to sit deep between our heels. It is vital to have mobility in our hips to hit the starting and receiving positions in weightlifting.

5. Why CrossFit Is for Every Kid (Danette “Dizzle” Rivera)

What I see kids get out of CrossFit kids class goes well beyond the physical. Sure they are safe from sports injuries, but they also have fun, camaraderie, and a big boost of self confidence.

6. A Quick Look at Preventing and Treating Shoulder Instability (Jeff Barnett)

Most athletes deal with shoulder pain at one point or another. The root cause for most of them is shoulder instability. But what causes instability and how can you fix it?

7. The 20-Rep Squat Routine: Old School Strength Training (Tom Kelso)

This routine is a time-proven means of becoming stronger and larger (all other factors being equal). It should be used sparingly because it is extremely demanding. Let’s go old school.
